iphone stuck at logo with endless reboot

This method has been tested and works with iPhone OS 1.14 thru 3.1.2 (current version!)

Try the following procedure at your own risk.

I’ve found from much trial and error that having too many iPhone 3rd apps installed when you try to jailbreak the phone will cause the phone to hang up in a state of constant reboot.

Although I can’t and don’t guarantee this will work 100% of the time, or on all iPhone models, if you’ve tried to jailbreak your iPhone and your phone gets stuck at the Apple Logo and reboots every 5-10 minutes, you need to follow these steps:

Setting the iPhone to recovery mode allows you to perform firmware restore using iTunes.

1) Power off the iPhone by depressing both the sleep/wake button on the top of the iPhone and the home button. Wait for the iPhone screen to turn black aka screen-off.

2) Depress the home button and connect the iPhone/iPod sync cable into the docking port on the bottom of the iPhone at the sametime without removing the home button.

3) You should be able to see the Apple logo coming up on the iPhone and then the recovery screen with be shown after the Apple logo:

4) iTunes will start and inform you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode and you should restore your iPhone to start using it.

5) Perform your firmware restore.

6) Run Quickpwn again and everything should go fine. If you’re using a mac, try plugging the phone in to a POWERED USB hub instead of directly into the computer’s port.

7) Re-sync your phone to add back all your data and apps.

ONCE AGAIN, I can’t guarantee this will work 100% of the time

biohaz

Computer security firm Intego has identified the first known truly malicious code which targets jailbroken iPhones with default root passwords.

The malware scans for phones on a given network with an open SSH port, then attempts to log in using the default root password that is the same on all iPhones.

Non-jailbroken iPhones are completely unaffected by this malware.  Jailbroken iPhones without OpenSSH installed are not vunerable.

Learn how to change your default passwords here.

The Dev Team has just released PwnageTool 3.1.4 for Mac OS X. This release supports the 3.1.2 iPhone software for the following devices: iPhone 2G/3G/3GS and iPod Touch 1G/2G.

  • The iPhone 3GS is now supported out of the box in PwnageTool 3.1.4 (or if you have upgraded to 3.1.x in iTunes)
  • The iPod 2G is still supported in PwnageTool 3.1.4 but you must already be jailbroken (we’ll update this if there’s a big demand from non-jailbroken ipt2G owners)
  • The iPod touch 3G is NOT supported

For the full details please visit the Dev Teams blog and read carefully!

The iPhone Dev team has released the latest version of their iPhone Pwnage Tool, version 3.1 for the Mac OS (only).

The iPhone Pwnage Tool 3.1 supports jailbreaking of the latest iPhone OS 3.1 but, at this time, it can only unlock the 1st generation iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPhone 3G NOT THE 3GS.

You can download the latest version, iPhone Pwnage Tool 3.1 at the link below.

Go to the iPhone Dev Teams website for full details.

I tried it out and am now running jailbroken 3.1 with no problems so far!

Unrestricted 3G Downloads!

3G Unrestrictor is a $2 app on the Cydia store that enables jailbroken iPhone users to select any app that they wish to use over 3G, including Skype and SlingPlayer.

More importantly (to me anyway) App Store and iTunes Store’s 10MB download limit on the 3G network can be disabled allowing direct download of ALL media and games availble directly to the device!

redsn0wThe iPhone Blog now has step-by-step directions on jailbreaking (with redsnow) and unlocking (with ultrasnow) the iPhone 2G, 3G and 3GS.

Guide for Windows.

pwnagetool

redsn0w is an easy to use, multi-platform, multi-device jailbreaking and unlocking (iPhone 2G only) tool for the iPhone 2G (original iPhone), the iPhone 3G (but not the 3GS) and also the iPod touch (first and second generation). Currently it is available for Windows and Mac OS X (there are some issues using redsn0w with OS X PPC, please use an Intel Mac until we have this problem resolved).

REDSN0W PROVIDES SIMILAR FUNCTIONALITY TO QUICKPWN.

GET REDSN0W HERE!!

Please note that not all jailbreak apps work 100% or are stable on OS 3.0 because they need to be updated for the new operating system.

Some that seem to be working fine are:

  • Cycorder
  • iBlacklist

Working somewhat inconsistently (try at your own risk):

  • iRealSMS
  • SBSettings
  • Winterboard

pwnapplePwnage tools for iPhone OS 3.0 are out now!!  –>For Mac OSX only that is (for now).

From the iPhone Dev Team:

This is the low down on our tools for use with the 3.0 firmware from Apple, read the whole post in full before attempting anything. Because of some bugs and unexpected changes this will be a multipart release, starting with the release of PwnageTool for Mac OS X. QuickPwn for Mac OS X and Windows will follow sometime soon, please don’t bug us about it, we are working flat out to get everything finished to release them.
