Jailbreaking is a process used to gain unrestricted (root) access to the iPhone’s Unix based filesystem. It allows you to install apps that are not authorized by Apple and/or not possible to develop given the restrictions of the Official iPhone SDK and its license agreement. It is not the same as unlocking the Phone for use with any carrier.
Here’s a few of my favorite Jailbreak apps that you’ll probably never see on the Apple App Store:
- Cycorder / Video Recorder – Let you capture decent quality video w/ built in camers
- xGPS – Turn by Turn GPS App with Voice Guidance.
- Intelliscreen – view email, sms, calendar, weather, news on lockscreen, also includes speed dialer for lockscreen.
- MySMS – Landscape SMS with advanced feature such as message forwarding, even email forwarding!
- SwirlyMMS – MMS for iPhone!
- MxTube – Download and save YouTube video
- Winterboard - Add custom themes, icons and wallpaper behind icons.
- iPhoneModem – Let you use iPhone as modem and give your laptop connection to Internet
- NES Emulator – Play classic Nintento games (Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt, etc..)
